For Pregnant Couples

Reflexology Workshops for Pregnant Couples & Birth Partners

People have been giving their pregnant partners foot rubs for centuries to ease their tired, achey, often swollen, feet. My workshops will teach you how to give the best foot rub EVER and also potentially help ease many of your partners pregnancy aches and pains.

Reflexology can be a vital tool during pregnancy, labour and the postnatal period and I can teach you how to perform simple, safe, reflexology techniques to help ease the strain that nurturing a baby may cause.

Pregnancy is a joint effort. It takes two to make a baby and although the mother is carrying the child, one of the ways the father can be involved is by giving Reflexology.

Both parents now play a major role in childbirth and fathers (or birth partners) are playing an important role during the labour. The support and encouragement of the partner is of great assistance to the new mother and Reflexology can be a vital aspect of the labour process.

After the birth, Reflexology may help get the mother’s body back into balance so it returns to its regular metabolism. Specifically, the uterus has been stretched in pregnancy and childbirth and needs time to return to its pre-pregnancy condition. Working on the points that correspond to the reproductive organs may facilitate recovery by letting additional energy flow through those areas that need healing.

Also, if breast-feeding, the mother may experience additional energy loss. Reflexology may aid milk production and flow and minimise soreness.

What to Expect – Workshop Structure

At the first workshop, a brief history of Reflexology will be explained including some theories on how it works. This is followed by the do’s, don’ts and precautions.

Week one – General treatment for relaxation and techniques to ease tension and specific pregnancy related ailments including backache & digestive problems.

Week two – Techniques for labour & birth, including keeping calm and in control, and Reflexology for potentially helping keep contractions strong and regular.

Week three – Postnatal period and getting back to normal.

I also run an intensive 2 hour workshop which covers relaxation, minor ailments and techniques for labour.  These shorter sessions have been working well and may be more convenient for busy couples who cannot attend three separate sessions.

Workshops can be individually taught to couples / birth partners or in groups. Courses are structured in easily practised sessions that are quickly grasped, with the emphasis being on the practical application of these techniques. You will leave each workshop feeling confident and secure in the techniques learnt.

The friendship of other couples can play an important part in increasing the confidence and contentment of new parents and learning to give simple Reflexology to partners may help couples become closer and partners feel more involved.

These workshops are not training for you to apply treatment to any other person but your partner on the course. The course does not train you to treat family or friends in the techniques. If your friends and family are interested in Reflexology workshops please ask them to contact me.

Workshops held across Maidstone (at Southcote Pro-Active Heathcare) and Medway (venue to be confirmed). Please contact me for more details and information on a course near you.
