PRE-CONCEPTION

Reflexology is thought to work on balancing all of the body systems to provide a healthy body for conception to take place. Gentle pressure to reflex points may balance the hormonal system and stimulate the reproductive glands.  Both men and women are encouraged to have treatments to aid relaxation and thus potentially balance hormone levels to allow conception to take place.

Pre-conception care is preparing the body, mind and spirit for the everyday miracle of conceiving, developing and birthing a new human being.  Reflexology may help with this preparation as it may help to balance hormones and stimulate the bodies own healing mechanisms.  Each session leaves you feeling relaxed and peaceful, thus allowing stress and tension to flow freely from the body.  This in turn may help conception take place.

DISORDERS OF THE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM

A number of my clients have found relief through reflexology for a number of fertility issues, such as ovulation and menstrual problems.

Reflexology may also help ease the discomfort and turmoil of premenstrual tension, irregular, heavy or painful periods, amenorrhoea (absence of menstrual periods) and menopausal symptoms.

Although some people find relief from these disorders through reflexology, it does not claim to cure and there are no guarantees you will fall pregnant following treatment.  Reflexology is thought to help revitalise the body so that the body’s natural internal healing mechanisms can do their own work.  Reflexology facilitates healing, but only the body cures.

INFERTILITY

Infertility is the state of being unable to conceive after one year of unprotected intercourse and the term may be used to refer to a state of having never conceived or that of having difficulty in conceiving again after having previously conceived.

The first problem that some couples face is getting pregnant. If there is a physical problem such as a disorder of the reproductive system the couple should always follow the advice of their gynaecologist. If the couple are told there is nothing wrong physically and that their problem is primarily psychological where can they turn? Non-physical causes of infertility often lie in unnecessary stress and worry. Reflexology encourages a deep relaxation which might alleviate stress and tension so that conception may take place.

Some couples turn to IVF or other medical treatment when having children becomes difficult, but why not try Reflexology first?  Some of my clients have had success and it’s completely natural and non-invasive. Reflexology can also be used alongside medicinal treatment, such as Clomid / Clomiphene, primarily for relaxation.

SUB-FERTILITY

Sub-fertility can occur in both men and women and is an in-between state when they are neither infertile nor can yet conceive.  Some women can have problems conceiving as they have had traumatic experiences, such as termination of pregnancy, previous pregnancy and childbirth, fears of unknown origin or are trying too hard to conceive.  There are many reasons for sub-fertility including stress, life style and physical state of health.

The qualities of reflexology for creating a balanced mind, body and spirit help give the best environment for a new life.

ASSISTED CONCEPTION

Assisted Conception is any method of conceiving other than by sexual intercourse.  There are several types of assisted conception, with In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) probably being the best known.  The IVF programme creates a change in the woman’s physical environment to enable the production of several ova.  It can be physically and emotionally exhausting, and very expensive.  I believe the calming, balancing qualities of reflexology help enormously to compliment these medical procedures.  Some people like to get permission from their consultant before starting reflexology but this is not always necessary.  Reflexology cannot not interfere with powerful medications (and I believe it may actually enhance them) and as it greatly helps ease anxiety and stress it can only bring benefits.

Although many people conceive following reflexology treatment, it does not claim to cure and there are no guarantees. Reflexology for fertility may help relieve some of the stress and anxiety which often accompanies failure to conceive.
